“Purchased this TV to replace a 5-year-old first-generation 42″ plasma TV made by Dell. The picture is crisp, sharp, clear. The sound is much louder than anticipated after reading other reviews. We enjoy this TV.
Purchased on-line from Amazon.com, we saved $503 on the exact TV we had just purchased at Best Buy, couldn’t get delivered for two weeks, and canceled. Because I’d researched customer reviews on Amazon’s website with my BlackBerry in the store, Amazon knew I was looking at this TV, made me aware of a $360 discount coupon the very next day, and made the deal. Free shipping. TV arrived in two days. Gentlemen who delivered the TV unpacked the TV, made sure it worked, set up the remote, and would have set it in place for me had I had the old TV disconnected and out of the way. Unbelievable free service.
Interesting to note, the blacks are very very black. With this giant TV in the room, our living room is much darker than it previously was — we need another lamp! Without HD satellite service, the TV does look awful with a 58″ screen. After HD satellite was installed, it looks amazing. DirecTV was a 30-day saga of agony, bills and phone calls. Amazon.com and this TV? An easy, even pleasant, experience.
While the sound is loud enough, it is not necessarily a pleasing sound, but rather harsh. My husband turns the sound up loud enough to irritate me so that he can hear. To solve our problem, we purchased a Samsung soundbar (has a DVD player in it we’ll be using as a CD player). Using a digital audio cable, the TV knew to adapt to the soundbar. In fact, the TV is smart enough, with it’s own system called Anynet+, that it knows everything that is attached to it. Turn on the Blu-Ray and Anynet+ knows it and sets itself up to play. Turn off the Blu-Ray, and you’re back in TV mode. Turn on the soundbar and go to different sound. Everything about setting up this TV is explicitly easy and accessible. The TV also has a very cool blue light that shows up on it’s clear stand/stem when on.
We do not game on this TV, as our old Dell is set up for gaming in another room. We do think Blu-Ray movies look amazing. Our only complaints would be that the TV emanates heat as it is very warm and has a bit of a buzzing noise, but as the house is seldom quiet, we seldom hear it. This winter we may well need that heat! As well, my husband is complaining that I think the TV looks oddly huge standing in the room, so we are getting an entertainment center, but that’s another story altogether.
We’d buy this TV again. In fact, we purchased a 42″ Touch of Color LCD Samsung TV for our bedroom because we were so pleased with this TV. Kitchen next!”
