Reviews by Mako … “I bought this set from a local dealer. I’ve been looking at the new 240Hz sets along with the more common 120Hz. Mitsubishi seems more or less disinterested in the numbers game, as they aren’t emphasizing the refresh rate (120Hz), contrast ratio, or other specs that seem to dominate LCD TV marketing. Although the specs can tell you much about a display, the proof is in the actual viewing experience. That’s where this model really impressed me.

Using the ‘Natural’ display preset actually produces a very natural image in color, contrast and brightness. The color balance is excellent. Color gradients are flawless, with no visible banding. The picture is incredibly sharp - given the right source. This set really shows its quality with Blu-ray video; detail is fantastic and motion is smooth with no visible blurring. This is also true of sports broadcasts in HD.

Mitsubishi emphasizes the integrated surround sound system on their web site. It’s a nice feature if you don’t have a separate surround sound amp. However, if you hope to get the surround effect, take a look at the diagrams in the online version of the owner’s manual. (It’s more complete than the printed one.) Since my room isn’t rectangular, I couldn’t really test the ’sound projection’ capabilities. You can connect and external sub-woofer too, which I did not attempt.

Connectivity is good, with 4 HDMI inputs, and two component/composite inputs. A USB port is a nice feature, as you can connect a flash drive or other storage device, and play back digital files directly. (I haven’t had a chance to test this thoroughly yet.) A digital audio output should come in handy for routing audio back to my surround sound receiver from the antenna input.

The design is understated, with an all black cabinet. The logos aren’t huge, and they don’t light up or anything. I particularly like the narrow (less than 1″) bezel. On the stand, I have just enough room for my center speaker, which is about 4.5″ high, to sit in front of the set. I’m still getting accustomed to the glossy screen, and was a bit wary of it before I made my purchase. My viewing room has a large window opposite the TV, and the reflection is a problem. However, the nature of a matte finish screen tends to reduce the sharpness of the image, so I opted for a better picture.

The remote is ‘activity based’ and capable of controlling other devices through the usual code entry, or via HDMI control of CEC devices. The button array is pretty basic, so you may end up using a different universal remote, or individual remotes. I haven’t programmed the included remote, as I use a Logitech Harmony One instead.

This TV doesn’t have some of the ‘features’ other manufacturers are throwing in these days. But honestly, I don’t need network connectivity, kid’s features or recipes on my TV. The Energy Star rating is another plus, and something that’s becoming fairly common. If you’re looking for a high-quality LCD TV that you’ll enjoy for years, take a look at this unit. I find it to be truly impressive.”

“In February 2008, we purchased the Mitsubishi LT46244 which was the immediate predecessor of the LT46246. The first LT46244 lasted 15 minutes and then died. It was replaced and, four months later, experienced panel separation. That panel was replaced under warranty; 12 days after the one year warranty expired, the replacement panel separated. Mitsubishi had extended the manufacturer’s warranty by a year, but was unable to get replacement panels. As a result, Mitsubishi replaced the defective LT46244 with its new model, the LT46246.

We noticed a significant improvement in the LT46246’s color and clarity over the previous model. As we had done previously, we set the color on “bright” since the TV is being used in a brightly light room. Mitsubishi’s “normal” setting was more washed out than we liked; however, were we using this set in a more dimly light room that setting would have been satisfactory. In fact, the color is so vivid that we have had two doves, a hummingbird, and a wren fly into the window that is directly opposite the television and 15 feet from it!

I have rated this television as a four star product for several reasons. The LT46244 had a matte screen which produced no glare in a brightly lighted room; the LT46246 screen does have a slight glare problem. However, if the panel is of better quality, I am more than willing to put up with the slight glare. It does not seem that Mitsubishi improved on the sound quality. That is not a major factor for my spouse and I as we are both tone-deaf; audiophiles will probably want to purchase a surround-sound system for better sound quality.

One final note - we did purchase an extended warranty from the local authorized Mitsubishi dealer. After the fiasco with the LT46244, we are taking no chances!”

“I’ve been watching the WD-65837 for a good two days now throwing everything at it, Directtv…Bluray…HDDVD…and still this TV displys beautiful pictures. Colors are crisp and accurate. I calibrated the set using Joe Kanes HDTV calibration disc and although the green is still a little off, it’s closser than the WD65833 was. “

Reviews by Ryan “This TV looks absolutely amazing, I would highly recommend anyone looking for a large TV (in the range of 60″+) to get a DLP TV. Try finding a plasma or LCD of this size that’s comparably priced–they don’t exist. TV is very easy to setup, has excellent picture quality, great sound (suitable until you can setup a surround sound install for it) and a great price. The only downside is that DLP televisions are thicker generally than Plasma and LCD so they aren’t usually wall mounted, but for a savings of 1000+ USD, who cares?

One thing I will say is, if you go to a brightly lit showroom and compare LCD to Plasma to DLP, you will probably think that DLP isn’t as good, because under that bright and harsh a light, the brighter a TV appears, the better you assume the picture quality, but then when you bring it home those super bright colors just appear washed out and harsh. Also, when dealing with LCD and Plasma, after 20,000 or so hours they will be significantly dimmer and at around 40,000 hours they will probably be unwatchable and you’ll have to buy an entirely new TV. With DLP, after a few years you just need to pop in a new lamp at the cost of around 100 bucks, and you’ve basically got a brand new TV.

Bottom line, if you want a very large TV that supports 1080P and 120HZ (important for watching fast action scenes filmed at 24 FPS) and don’t mind having to buy a stand instead of a wall mount kit, then DLP is the way to go and this TV is among the best value in the DLP realm.

Also, I must say buying with Amazon has proved to be a great experience. The first TV I received had a small crack in the bottom of the screen that occured during the shipping process. I called Amazon and they immediately shipped me a replacement. The carrier that came unpacked the new TV, packed up the old damaged TV, installed the new TV, and took ALL the packaging for both TV’s–Completely hassle-free!”

I opted to disable the 120 HZ processor and just use the 60 HZ mode and it handles sporting events and fast motion just fine with no hint of blurring or ghosting. The TV handles the SD channels just fine and even those look great but, of course, not as good as the HD channels.

After searching for more than a year on a DLP TV, I decided that this one met the price and quality requirements that I demanded. So far, I have not been disappointed. It took a while to find a setting that I liked but after some tuning it is one of if not the best looking picture that I’ve viewed.”

“Great TV with amazing color. It is extremely bright with great definition.

Controls were easy (my wife can actually switch between DVD and cable on this set) Also hooked up the blu-ray which is a must for a TV of this magnitude. My friends who have smaller more expensive LED and LCD televisions are jealous. I don’t need to mount on a wall, so the DLP was perfect for our home theater and gaming room. The price difference is dramatic with no loss in quality. Playing Wii tennis is crazy fun on this set.”
