“I bought this tv to replace my Toshiba 46″ LCD 1080p. I really did like my Toshiba but there is no comparison between the two. I was a little hesitant at first due to all the rumors you here about plasma tv’s but after I did my research I found most of them to be false.

The picture is amazing! The setup and operation is fairly easy also. At the store I did notice the settings on the plasma tv were set to make them look darker than the LCD’s. This plasma has a Vivid picture setting that brightens the picture and improves the color. I have my tv wall mounted in our family room which has 3 large windows and I do not have a problem with glare.

I am not an expert by far, but I will say if you decide to buy this tv you will not be disappointed. I was so happy with LG I went back and bought one for my bedroom, not as big though. Hope this helps. Thanks ”

“I bought this TV about 3 months ago after much reseach. Amazon did not have the best price and after a phone call to customer service they refused to price match. “I’ve had the LG 50PS80 for three days now. I really like the TV and believe it is well worth the price. In addition to a great design and noticeably good picture, this HDTV features NETCAST, which you can access with a high speed internet connection. This gives you entree to Netflix movies (with a subscription), and also the VUDU movie service — without the need to buy and attach the boxes for those two services. Netflix in particular is a bargain because for less than $10 a month, you can stream all the movies you want from their instant queue (which has about 10,000). In addition, Netcast features Yahoo Widgets for quick access to weather and headline news. And there is also a feature for showing photographs and playing your music on the television.

The Netcast feature on the television also gives you access to YouTube, which was a big selling point for me. Unfortunately, YouTube on this TV is not nearly as flexible as YouTube on a computer. You cannot create playlists nor can you play a continuous loop of videos. Instead, you have to interact with the remote control to access each video from a list of favorites. Perhaps this will be rectified with a software update at a later time. In addition, there were a few glitches with the YouTube feature. If I scrolled through a list of videos too fast, it had a tendency to disconnect and return to the broadcast picture. This seems to have lessened over time. The television has all the usual inputs that you would expect from a high-end LG set, including 4 HDMI inputs. However, it has only one antenna input and it does not have a slot for a cable card. I’m not sure how many competing televisions have this shortcoming.

The sound system is very good on the television although likely not as good as that in the far more expensive Mitsubishi UNISEN sets. Still, I doubt that many people would be unhappy with the sound that emanates from this HDTV, among the best you can receive without attaching a home theater system. And the picture on some movies — even some that were not in HD — was out of this world. It provides a real cinematic experience. All in all the LG 50PS80 is a bargain for the price in my view.”

Reviews by Frank .. “Got it for $1,700 shipped vs. $1,900-$2,300 sold elsewhere. Great high definition picture and very good standard definition. The best viewing angle of any LCD screen that I’ve seen. Sound quality is atypical, with good simulated bass. Built-in virtual surround sound eliminates the need for a home theatre system except for audiophiles. Like most LCD, it does not do black color well. Human skin tone looks cartoonish at closeup, a negative for this set. There is no blur motion, even with NASCAR. The on-screen menu is very easy to navigate, so no need to read the manual on the CD.

Lots of connectivity options on the back and a few jacks on the side for camcorder (no HiDef.) Auto-sizing is always correct on screen size - unlike some other HDTVs that sometimes get it wrong. There is a green/red status LED so that I know whether the TV is actually on or in standby mode (less than 1W with EnergyStar.) The set is heavy at 110 pounds, but that also helps deter theft I reckon. The shining and narrow black frame is absolutely beautiful. Overall, I highly recommend this 52″ monster.”

Reviews by SirG. “I’ve had this TV for about two weeks now. The TV is heavy, and I wanted to mount it “flush” to the wall so I got the heavy-duty articulating Peerless IM760PU mount. This would allow me access to the back of the TV without having to lift it.

Now back to the TV. I LOVE IT. The picture quality is unmatched by anything I’ve seen. The factory settings do need to be adjusted, but the process is amazingly intuitive with this TV. Non HD shows are just OK, but gosh, get an HD show on this puppy, and you’ll never leave home. As a matter of fact I had my buddy, who owns a Pioneer Elite Kuro over the other day, and he was blown away by the picture quality on this TV.

“NetCast, which is an internet media streaming system that is compatible with Netflix, YouTube, and Yahoo! Widgets” is great to have. I have watched YouTube videos and tried out Yahoo Widgets, but I still need to get a subscription to Netflix to get the full benefit of this feature.

I Have my newly purchased Denon Receiver AVR-2310CI and BluRay Player 2500BTCI sitting in boxes in my office while I await the AV furniture. Once these are set up and I get a chance to play a BluRay disc, I’ll provide feedback.”

Reviews by James “I bought this TV from our local BestBuy. I had been looking at the Samsung edge-lit LED/LCD line. The LG TV rep happened to be at the Fort Worth store, and he was really helpful. I’ve had the TV now for three four days, and I couldn’t be happier.

The TV is used in a well-lit living area, making the matte screen useful. I have looked at a LOT of TVs, and if you’re worried about the matte screen diminishing picture quality, don’t be. It kills reflections very effectively. The picture is gorgeous, regardless of source (LG BD390 Blu-ray player and a Dish Network 722 receiver in my case). Beautiful color, black blacks. Try the THX picture mode - it looks VERY realistic. My mom had a Panasonic plasma TV, and this is a better picture.

Worth buying just for the futuristic standby/on power light; can be disabled if you’re not as fond of it as I am.

The sound/lip synch issue with HDMI feeds has gotten a lot of attention. Using the TV audio, I had an initial problem with the Dish receiver till I tweaked the receiver’s settings. Same with BD390 player. Now all is well with either HDMI TV audio or external audio. I do think HD audio, especially with HDMI feeds, are problematic sometimes (too often). I understand that a solution is coming in the form of some sort of forced sync between HDMI audio and video in the HDMI standard. Hope so. With external audio, an audio delay box might be useful.

I am sitting here watching the Dish HD NBC Today show feed. It’s stunning. I am a biologist, and I recently watched the Blu-ray version of Planet Earth. It nearly brought me to tears, it was so gorgeous.

Reviews by Ben “I purchased this TV for a little under $1750. No tax, free shipping, and the lowest price that I could find on the internet made this an easy decision for me. I was skeptical at first with the low price that the picture quality would live up to my expectations. I was anticipating those “blurry squares” that appear (like on my 50in) whenever I am watching sports or movies with lots of action. However, I was quite impressed. This set delivers a clear and consistent picture and for a fraction of the price of other competing brands.

My negatives are mostly minor things, but I decided to list everything I could think of to help those that are “on the fence”. The one thing that I thought was a little pointless are the preset picture options such as “sports”, “cinema”, and so on. I (as well as my friends and family) have yet to find a setting that works better than the default. All others seem either dull or so bright that a person’s face color looks unnatural.

In summary… there is very little that I do not like about this set. Aesthetically, it is a good looking TV. The screen size is ridiculously impressive, and the picture quality I would rate around an 8/10. Finally, the price is right. If you can purchase it for under $1800, I would consider it a bargain.”
