Mitsubishi WD-73733 73-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV

The WD-73733 is a mammoth 73-inch DLP (Digital Light Processing) rear-projection HDTV from Mitsubishi that incorporates the latest technologies for an accurate picture that is perfect for a large home theater system.

Mitsubishi is taking Color to a new level with x.v.Color support and its exclusive 6-Color Light Engine. x.v.Color is the new standard for HDTV and it enables 80% more color than standard HDTV. Mitsubishi’s 6-Color Light Engine processes and produces images with six different colors instead of the traditional three to display a wider range of colors, brighter colors and whiter whites. Additional color features such as Color 4D Noise Reduction and PerfectColor allow for additional advanced color processing and adjustment. The result is breathtaking realism with vivid, yet natural Color Without Compromise. This 73″ 1080p DLP HDTV features Mitsubishi’s unique TurboLight180 lamp system and Plush1080p processing for both unsurpassed detail in over 2 million pixels and for bright, vibrant images. The stunning High Definition picture is further enhanced by its sleek and modern look. Mitsubishi’s sleek, simple design provides more picture with less frame. This year even the 73″ 1080p DLP HDTV gets a thin frame, and a dramatically thinner cabinet. With 1080p and a compact cabinet, get a larger screen and sit closer than ever before! Go ahead and get into the action, immerse yourself.

Buy It or Read Full Reviews Before You Buy Mitsubishi WD-73733 73-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV

Giant Performance, Small Footprint
Because the latest Texas Instruments 1080P DLP chip is inside, this television yields the full 1920 x 1080 high-definition resolution with progressive scan, the highest quality HDTV standard today. With a television this size, offering more than two million pixels is important to prevent visible pixelation.

The television can display any video signal that is connected to it. When a 1080p signal is the input, it passes through with no down conversion: The 1080p signal is maintained from beginning to end, giving the best picture quality. When a lower resolution is detected, whether it is 720p HD or a DVD, the signal is automatically scaled to display at 1080p, with minimal side effects and a very detailed picture.

The screen is huge and the technologies are many, but the unit itself weighs less than 100 pounds and is only 17.5 inches deep, which means it will fit into many decors.

More Color
The WD-73733 incorporates a slew of new technologies that combine to give this television the most realistic color reproduction available on the market today. The new x.v.Color standard is supported, which dramatically increases the color space available, with 80 percent more color than standard HDTV.

The WD-73733 also supports Deep Color, a new standard that incorporates 10-bit color depth, versus the previous 8-bit color depth. With Deep Color, shaded images show less banding and greater contrast.

Coupled with this technology is Mitsubishi’s exclusive 6-Color Light Engine, which uses six primary colors instead of the traditional three to create more colors. Mitsubishi’s Color 4D Noise Reduction, PerfectColor, and PerfectTint yield a wider color palette and the ability to fine tune the set to your exact preferences. The end result is a brighter, smoother, and more realistic picture than ever before.

Connections Galore
You don’t need to worry about running out of connections with the WD-73733. It has three HDMI 1.3 inputs with Simplay HD certification, so you can connect your Blu-Ray player, HD DVD player, and still have an input left over. It also has three component video inputs (two rear, one front), a front USB connection so you can display up to five-megapixel photographs, and two A/V inputs with S-Video. It has a Dolby Digital/PCM output and an analog stereo output.

The WD-73733 is backed by a limited 1-year warranty.

Customer’s reviews Mitsubishi WD-73733 73-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV

“i bought this tv and the matching stand,( Mitsubishi MB-73PB Matching Base for WD-73734/WD-73733) and i couldnt be happier. in all, i cant beleave there selling it at the price they are. i wouldve paid much more. im not sure about the speakers that come with it because i have mine running through Sony DAV-FX900W 5-Disc DVD Dream System (5.1 Channel) also bought from here and its perfect.

friends are AMAZED when i tell them how much it was. for you football fans out there, you cant go wrong. for all you gamers out there. you wont beleave the picture. and for those who like movies, itll be like watching it in the theater. recommend for everyone.”

“My husband and I bought this high def Mitsubishi 73″ tv last October, 2007. We already had a 50″ Mitsubishi projection tv that was 13 years old and never needed any repairs. For that reason we only wanted another Mitsubishi. What a fantastic electronic appliance it is. We got the $500 base for free, and with free delivery, free set up by the delivery men, and no tax, it was an amazing deal. Our WD-73733 TV is performing beautifully. I fully expect it to have the same quality as the older model we had.

You can’t go wrong with the Mitsubishi brand name and ordering from Amazon. I suggest you check out the bonus deals that Amazon throws in every October thru December. You just might get a free base for this huge tv also.”

“I bought this TV as a Christmas present to myself last December, and it has been great ever since the delivery man and I set it up. The picture is extremely clear in 1080i (I haven’t upgraded to HDMI cables yet so I’m not running 1080p). I haven’t had any problems at all. The fan is a little louder than on my old 42″ panasonic TV but what do you expect with such a large set? I don’t hear it over my 7.1 channel surround sound - so it is a non-issue.

This is an excellent TV if you have a nice corner spot to set it up in. You could easily spend more for a picture half the size. And it sure is cool when people come over because most folks have never seen anything that big.”

Customer’s reviews Mitsubishi WD-73736 73-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV

“I love this huge television. I have had it for a week now and feel I have had enough time to give it a good once over. The picture quality of the TV is excellent and it stands up to the LCD and plasma competition. The price was great and I wouldn’t change anything except the audio. Terrible, terrible audio. I read the reviews that said the sound was bad before I purchased the TV, but I had no idea it would be this SAD. I can’t say I wasn’t warned. I was also glad I was ready because I feed the TV audio through my Bose system.

All said and done, it’s a good deal and it has a beautiful picture, despite the rainbow effects that were also previously mentioned in the reviews. I was not surprised by the occasional rainbows because the Mitsubishi projector I own has the same problem. I have learned to ignore them.

I also was very happy to find out that Amazon arranged to have the TV and the matching base delivered and SET UP for no additional charge. This was in addition to the free shipping. Great customer service is the reason I have been a Amazon customer for so many years.

Update: Two months later the price is $160 less. Too bad for me!”

“This item was delivered in great condition. the picture is perfect. This is probably the best deal and quality out there for the price. it even looks better than my 60″ and at half the price. Excelent purchase experience from Amazon.com. I recommend the Mitsubishi WD-73737 73-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV to anyone that loves movies.”

“I wasnt necessarily looking for a tv this big but this was available at the right price. It has not let me down. If you are in the market for a tv this size, your options are definitely limited and this should not disappoint. The picture is not as bright as others, but do not mistake that as meaning it has a bad picture. Sound quality could be better, but I wasnt expecting much from the tv itself. If you buy something this size, im sure you will have a stereo hooked up as well. I recommend..”

Customer’s reviews Mitsubishi WD-73735 73-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV

“I have had this TV for almost a year. It’s performance has been nothing short of stellar. Yes the sound quality is not that great but if you use a alternative sound source such as an audio receiver this is a non-issue.

The picture quality really shines when viewing HD football broadcasts and other sporting events. Blue-Ray/HD movies are spectactular. Video games from the Wii to the PS3 look great. I have my PC connected via HDMI which has breathed new life in to old and new PC games alike. There is a PC mode built into the TV that makes it act like a standard computer monitor (pretty cool :-).

But keep in mind this is an HDTV with emphases on the HD part. SD (Standard Definition) TV pictures may appear sub-par. This is because you have 73 inches (huge picture) which will magnify the pixels of SD TV which is only 480i/480p (720p, 1080i or 1080p for HD) for most satelite and cable feeds. SD viewing may have noticable blocks imbeded in you picture (usually refered to as pixelation). This is not noticable on smaller TVs due to the smaller screen size. If you have HD satelite, HD cable TV, or get HDTV via an “over the air antenna”, this is a must have TV, especially for the price.

You notice I didn’t mention Standard DVDs above. These look fine for the most part because of todays DVD players will up-covert Standard DVDs to where they look fine on TVs of this size. It depends upon the quality of the DVD itself.

If you plan on watching this TV in SD mode you may want to go somewhere that has this TV or one similiar to judge the SD picture quality for yourself. You will want to try the SD picture in both coaxle cable mode and S-Video mode. Alot of the SD (non-HD) satelite and cable boxes have both of these outputs. You should notice an improvement with S-Video feed over coaxle feed. Since most TV programming is either available in HD or heading that direction, this is becoming less of an issue.

I have been extremely satisfied with my TV and definitely recommend it for any type of HD viewing and/or video game playing.”

“I recently purchased this tv from another store and not Amazon. But it was still cheap. Any hoot, for a 73 inch TV, you really do get your monies worth. The picture can be realistic and more amazing if you do an ISF calibration. Out of the box, colors are a bit off and picture is not quite right. I performed my own ISF calibration and the colors are sweet (white is whiter and black is blacker). I love showing off this tv by popping in HD MOODS Aquarium in the PS3. If you can’t spend the money for a professional calibration (stay away from Geek Squad), please pick up a calibration disc. You will be stunned and amazed of the picture quality that this set can really do. Only bad side I can really think of is the sound quality. I tweaked the audio settings and the sound is still not right for me. Maybe is just me. Hope this helps.”

“I love this TV I searched and researched a lot of TVs and found this TV to be the best and BIGGGGEEEST for the price. When it arrived I hooked it up quickly to my PS3 and Wii (I have also hooked up my iPhone and it displays video content just great) the picture quality was even better that I could hope for. the only down side to this TV is the sound quality (at least in my big family room) but no problem because I have an external sound source hooked up suppling crisp surround sound anyway!

Bottom line…dont think twice about getting this tv just get it! “

The WD-73734 is a mammoth 73-inch DLP (Digital Light Processing) rear-projection HDTV from Mitsubishi that incorporates the latest technologies for an accurate picture that is perfect for a large home theater system.

You don’t need to worry about running out of connections with the WD-73734. It has a total of four HDMI 1.3 inputs with Simplay HD certification, three in the rear and one in the front, so you can connect your Blu-Ray player, HD DVD player, and still have two inputs left over. It also has three component video inputs (two rear, one front), a front USB connection so you can display up to five-megapixel photographs, and two A/V inputs with S-Video. It has a Dolby Digital/PCM output and an analog stereo output. Mitsubishi’s NetCommand enables the included partially illuminated remote to control an entire home theater system.

More Color
The WD-73734 incorporates a slew of new technologies that combine to give this television the most realistic color reproduction available on the market today. The new x.v.Color standard is supported, which dramatically increases the color space available, with 80 percent more color than standard HDTV.

The WD-73734 also supports Deep Color, a new standard that incorporates 10-bit color depth, versus the previous 8-bit color depth.

The WD-73734 is backed by a limited 1-year warranty.

What’s in the Box
WD-73734 73-inch DLP HDTV, remote control, two AA batteries, owner’s guide, quick reference guide, quick connect guide, product registration card, and two-ended IR emitter.

Customer’s reviews Mitsubishi WD-73734 73-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV

“I purchased the Mitsubishi WD-73734 about a month ago & I love it! I had owned a Mitsubishi 55″ HD Television for several years -It still works great-in fact I have never had any repair service done to it.However, because it is an early CRT type model - it didn’t have the HDMI connections which are a must if you want to watch Full 1080p High Definition.Out of the box-the WD-73734 needs some adjustments (as any TV would) to the menu settings - especially the Contrast & Brightness need to be tuned down a bit - not only will this give you a GREAT PICTURE,it will help prolong the life of the DLP Lamp.

Some reviewers mentioned fan noise - I haven’t noticed any at all.We sit about 9ft. from the television, however you could sit closer.I would highly recommend to purchase the matching 73B TV stand because the pedestal of the WD-73734 hides away neatly in the top of the stand for a Awesome home theatre setup. As other reviewers have said - the sound from the speakers of the WD-73734 aren’t very good -but I’m sure most people will have a 5.1 or better reciever hooked up.This was my first LARGE purchase from Amazon, and I have to admit that delivery of everything went very smooth & I would do it again”

“Hands down if your considering getting this tv, stop looking any further. There’s a reason this tv has had RAVE reviews against all others. I spent 3 months researching tv’s to buy and my journey started and ended here. Mitsubishi in my opinion is the best company for tv’s out there. The picture is INSANE everyone I know with plasmas & LCDs that are in aww over my tv. So stop searching and pull the trigger, you won’t regret it!!!!!”

“Purchased from Amazon last Nov, got free shipping, save on tax. TV was delivered and the driver helped me put it on the stand and made sure it worked prior to leaving.I appreciated the extra effort on his part. TV decreased 250.00 in price within 2 weeks of purchase and once again Amazon came through and game me the difference. I purchased a three year warranty thru squaretrade*com for 190.00, covers the TV and parts and repair, couldnt go wrong there.”

1080p High-Definition DLP Display System
The WD-73837 uses Texas Instruments Digital Light Processing technology for rear-projection TVs to create the picture you see on screen. All images are displayed at 1080p, and the TV uses Plush 1080p 5G to convert lower-resolution signals to 1080p for display. It’ll also accept 1080p original signals and maintain them at 1080p through all processing until displayed.

3D Ready
All Mitsubishi 1080p DLP HDTVs are 3D Ready. This feature lets you experience the new 3D technologies applied to many recent movies and video games. Immerse yourself in your favorite video game, movie, or sporting event displayed in 3D.

Integrated HDTV Tuner
The WD-73837 features an internal HDTV tuner able to receive both over-the-air HDTV broadcasts (received via an antenna) and non-scrambled digital cable broadcasts, including non-scrambled HDTV cable programming.

Smooth 120Hz
Mitsubishi’s Smooth 120Hz Film Motion takes 120Hz technology to the next level with dejudder for film originated content. In the conversion of film-to-video for display, 24Hz artifacts can be seen in slow panning scenes. Smooth 120Hz Film Motion eliminates this artifact for smooth, crisp, fast and slow action content.

6-Color Processor
Mitsubishi’s 6-Color Processor processes and produces images with six different colors–instead of the traditional three–to display a wider range of colors, brighter colors and whiter whites.

PerfectColor
PerfectColor replaces the traditional “tint” control on TVs, giving users far more control over their on-screen picture. Adjust six colors independently to dial in the perfect picture. In addition, PerfectTint sliders allow you to adjust six hues for the current image source.

x.v.Color
x.v.Color is the new standard in high-definition color, which delivers up to 80 percent more color than standard HDTV for breathtaking realism and vivid, natural colors.

USB Input
The WD-73837 can read photo or music files from a USB device. Enjoy your favorite MP3/WMA music files, your JPEG images, or combine the two in a music-accompanied slide show. The TV can also display input from a camera through the Y/VIDEO port.

High-Definition Video Inputs

Three Component Video Inputs.
Also called Y/Pb/Pr inputs, these inputs receive standard analog video formats of 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i high-definition signals. This provides a high level of flexibility when connecting DVD players/recorders, cable boxes, and satellite receivers.

Four HDMI Inputs.
These inputs accept digital 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p video signals plus PCM digital stereo signals. The HDMI inputs can also accept a variety of PC signals and resolutions. These inputs support HDMI 1.3 Deep Color (up to 36 bits) and the x.v.Color extended color gamut. Used with an adapter, these HDMI inputs also accept compatible digital DVI video signals. HDMI inputs provide additional high-performance, high-definition connections for maximum flexibility in your choice of home theater products. The HDMI inputs are HDCP copy-protection compatible.

Easy Connect Auto Input Sensing
Easy Connect Auto Input Sensing automatically recognizes when you plug in a device and prompts you to assign a name to it. The TV ignores any unused inputs, so the result is an uncluttered menu where you can easily find and select connected devices by name.

Home-Theater Control

HDMI Control
HDMI devices with Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) capabilities may be compatible with the TV’s HDMI Control feature. Compatible devices can receive control signals through the HDMI connection, allowing the TV’s remote control to operate some functions of these devices.

Net Command with IR Learning
Mitsubishi’s 837 Series offers a new level of networking that seamlessly integrates selected older A/V products with new and future digital products. Net Command supports IR (infrared) control of products such as VCRs, DVD players, cable boxes, and satellite receivers. Net Command can “learn” remote control signals directly from many devices, allowing you to create a customized NetCommand-controlled home theater system. The necessary IR emitter cables are available for purchase separately from Mitsubishi.

ENERGY STAR Compliance
This TV meets ENERGY STAR efficiency standards in all operating modes.

Customer’s reviews Mitsubishi WD-73837 73-Inch 1080p 120Hz Home Theater DLP HDTV

“Got this TV a week ago, and I have to say I’m very impressed. I was originally planning on putting in a ceiling-mount projector with an 80″ screen, but I saw a huge price drop on the 73835 and ordered it through Electronics Expo… after I placed the order, they called me and said they had oversold it and upgraded me to the new 73837 for the same price! Great customer service. A few things about the TV: It’s big and bright! It comes set on “brilliant” picture mode, which is horrible. I usually calibrate my TV’s as best I can with Video Essentials or Avia, but this model has an in-depth picture adjustment menu with ISF level adjustments. There are two advanced picture presets and the second one looks perfect to me. Had a bunch of people over for the Penn State-Iowa game this weekend and they could not believe how real the game looked. I bought the Bell’O AVSC-9870 stand for it, which fits it perfectly and is selling cheap on Amazon right now. (note, this stand looks fabulous, but is not very deep. If you have big audio components, they may not fit). If you scroll halfway down the page for that stand you can see the Mitsu sitting on it.

The TV is not very heavy, but it’s awkward to move. The remote is a waste. Most people don’t use their TV’s remotes anymore, so I won’t knock it for that. The menus are not very intuitive, but other than that, I have no other problems with this set. The built-in speakers sound pretty decent, but I’ll never have them on. It looks awesome with Blu-Ray and PS3 games, but up-sampled DVDs show their lack of resolution at this screen size. The screen non-reflective, which is a nice change from my 57″ Toshiba that you could see everything reflecting on. The lamp is easy to replace yourself, with a pull-out cartridge in the back, unlike older TVs where you had to get a service tech to do it. A replacement bulb is $99 from Mitsubishi, but you shouldn’t need one for a few years. It does lack picture in picture, but I’m not too keen on that anyway. All in all, I’m really pleased with this TV, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a big screen for a lot less than a similar sized flat panel. For a more in-depth review, Home Theater magazine reviewed it in their latest issue and gave it 4 stars for value. ”

“Best 73 Inches TV … I bought this TV 3 Weeks ago and enjoyed it so much.. The videos are bright and stunning color ( the background colors really comes out, its amazing.. The HD channels are very clear that you do not want to go back to the regular channels.. The con’s.. the remote control its small and looked like a toy..
Over all the TV is very good also for its price… I can say that this is the best TV I ever buy.. “

“Great picture, brilliant colors, only 97 lbs, easy to program. Multiple imputs possible. For 73 inches, amazingly clear.
Slow warm up.

Only downer, lamp is 180 watts, needs replaced about every two to three years-$99 from mitsub

Would buy again.”

Justin G. Cramer “I purchased this TV and had it delivered in time for the Olympics. My cable company actually seems to have broadcast NBC’s HD channels with out over compressing them and the pictures are awesome. Please note that this is my first 1080p TV so I may be a bit too easy to impress. I have a Panasonic TH-42PX60U 42-Inch Plasma HDTV as well but they are not even in the same class.

I have a PS3 as well that I use as a Blu-Ray player. This is why I will never have to go to the movie theater again. The movies are stunning. Sitting at 9 feet (3 meters) from the set all your field of vision is filled without having to move your head.

Out of the box this TV was easy to use and operate. I do, however, recommend reading the manual as there are several features that you may not know exist if you do not.

In choosing this TV I had trouble finding reviews. This is because Mitsubishi seems to release a new model every year or less. I recommend looking at some of the prior models reviews. ”

“I just purchased this TV and so far the picture is very good. I have 2 plasma’s and the picture quality is better than both of those. They delivered it in less than a week, Im a huge Pittsburgh Steeler fan and I as able to watch there first game on this 73 inch TV and it was great. I would recomend this product………”

Customer’s reviews Mitsubishi WD-73C9 73-Inch 1080p Flat panel DLP Home Theater

“I did a lot of homework before making this purchase and am very happy with my choice. I purchased this tv for $1698 thru Amazon from the Home Theatre Store. They upgraded me to the WD-73737 at no additional charge which was a pleasant surprise. I picked it up at the shipping terminal and it was expertly packaged and in perfect condition. Set up was as easy as it gets and the picture quality is fantastic.

I have mine hooked up to a direct tv hd receiver and the sound running thru a Harmon Kardon receiver with 4 Infinity ceiling speakers and a velodyne sub. Mitsubishi has been around forever and DLP is what the movie theatres use. Blu-ray movies will blow you away! This is a lot of tv for the money.

It sits on a Bush Verona model stand that for $238 was far less than the matching Mitsubishi stand and it looks great. Like everyone else says…the remote is not that great, but I use the Direct tv remote so it’s no big deal. I was so impressed by this tv that I bought the Mitsubishi WD-60737 for my office.”

“The tv arrived with a hole in the screen the first time, but that was just a minor setback. Amazon covered the whole thing flawlessly and the new tv was shipped within a matter of 3 or so days. I am very happy with this purchase, the picture is amazing and who can really complain about a 73 inch tv. Honestly, there is nothing negative to say about this tv. Its Amazing!”

“Actually purchased this set from [...] on a promo including the matching 73″ stand from Mits. I’m honestly surprised Costco sells any DLP sets considering how dark their picture setup was on the sales floor. I bought it 2 months ago based on the confidence taken from prior buyers experience, my own experience w/ a 2004 Samsung 61″ DLP, and lastly, the review of a similar model 65″ Mits in the Sept 2009 issue of Home Theater Mag.

When I got it setup and began trying to adjust the picture settings to my liking, I couldn’t seem to find the right combination to suit me. Fortunately, Home Theater Mag’s article gave the precise user settings they employed during their testing. I tried them and, voila, excellent picture. I actually feel the picture exceeds my prior Samsung’s quality, and I always raved about it.

If you are happy with a 50″ or smaller picture, consider all formats. But if you are drawn to a true movie experience combining picture excellence with low cost, look no further. These new Mits DLP units really perform. “
