While the HP-T5054 Samsung’s entry level 50-inch 720p plasma for 2007, it differs from the step-up HP-T5064 only in the cosmetic design, and the lack of a USB2.0 connection. Single-tuner Picture in Picture
This HDTV has a picture-in-picture feature, but it only has a single tuner which does not allow POP to function n the same mode. For example, you can’t watch one TV channel in the main screen and another channel in the PIP screen. You can watch a tv channel in one screen and view contnet from your computer or a DVD in another. This tends to be the functional limitation of PIP in most HDTVs currently available.

“There’s no contest, and it’s a crying shame that these sets are a fast dying breed. 1080p, 120hz, HDMI 1.3 support, and an inherently faster refresh rate than ANY LCD panel produced and you’ve got by far and beyond the absolute best HDTV to reproduce any blu-ray that exists.

Having seen blu-ray on 120hz LCDs, I quickly developed a distaste for the image which due to the problems inherent in digital displays, the look and feel of film had completely disappeared. Pirates of The Carribean: At World’s End, looked like it was shot with a nice HD Camera and forgot to undergo the post production processing that makes it film.

However, when it comes to watching HD Video (like HD off-air broadcasts or HD Satellite TV) this set is no slouch. Watching college football on ESPN or CBS will make you cry and almost forget about buying season tickets. The color palette is incredible and the blacks are BLACK, not dark gray or charcoal.

For reference sake, I’m using a Dishnetwork ViP 211 HD Satellite receiver, a Pioneer BDP-51FD Blu-Ray player (best you can by for under $1000, I promise you) and both are jacked in with Accell Ultra Pro AV 2m HDMI 1.3 cables, capable of slinging 10.2 Gbits per second, just like the Monster Cable 1000 HDMI cables for 3 times the price.”

“I bought this TV last spring and paid $1600, something I’d said I’d never do. Brought it home and set it up and was a little stunned to find out that I needed to upgrade my DirectTV receiver to HD. After all was said and done, it truly is the best thing I’ve ever purchased. I talked to 2 different salesmen from 2 different major dept. store chains when I was looking. I was set on the LCD from what I had heard. After the “spiel”, I asked both salesmen what they owned and they both said “plasma”. They explained some stuff about the rate of speed that is captured with the plasma and that they both notice the LCD streaking at times of high action in sporting events. They also did warn me about reflection issues with the plasma and they were right. I have a window at the back of the room on the south side of the house and when the sun shines in, I have to shut the curtains. If I look close (really, really close), I can see the lights in the room reflect off the glass like screen, but the outstanding picture and contrast make it a non-issue for me. I used to occasionally check in to catch the scores of the MN Twins games with my 34 inch Toshiba, now I look forward to coming home and watching the entire games. I’m still paying off the credit card, but haven’t sent in a payment yet that hasn’t brought satisfaction to mind. I’m salivating waiting for Football season! It’s really a great TV….”

“I bought this tv to replace my Toshiba 46″ LCD 1080p. I really did like my Toshiba but there is no comparison between the two. I was a little hesitant at first due to all the rumors you here about plasma tv’s but after I did my research I found most of them to be false.

The picture is amazing! The setup and operation is fairly easy also. At the store I did notice the settings on the plasma tv were set to make them look darker than the LCD’s. This plasma has a Vivid picture setting that brightens the picture and improves the color. I have my tv wall mounted in our family room which has 3 large windows and I do not have a problem with glare.

I am not an expert by far, but I will say if you decide to buy this tv you will not be disappointed. I was so happy with LG I went back and bought one for my bedroom, not as big though. Hope this helps. Thanks ”

“The LG 50PS60 is my first flat panel TV purchase. I’m very happy with it. I don’t use the THX Cinema setting, instead I’ve modified the standard setting to my liking - though black is not as black as when it is off. I can’t seem to achieve that, but as a novice I’m not sure if that’s a reasonable goal.

One small nit - sometimes I find the TV has changed itself from the standard setting to something else, like THX or Vivid. I think this happens if I toggle around too much in the TV menu, but I’m not sure what triggers this changing.

This TV has an auto-brightness feature that evaluates the room brightness and adjusts the picture accordingly. Lower brightness reduces power consumption on a plasma. This TV does have a more glossy screen than some other manufacturers. We watch TV in the evening, in a moderately dark room - but even with a lights on I can’t say I’ve ever been aware of reflections in the screen. So for me, no biggie.

I’m driving this display with a DirecTV HD DVR and a Panasonic DVD recorder/player, both via HDMI. I’m surprised and pleased how good the DVD looks. BlueRay is on the wish list for now. DirecTV 1080i and 720p content looks great.

Yesterday my family viewed my daughter’s jpg pictures of her trip to Greece on the 50PS60 via the USB jack and built-in picture viewing software. The pictures looked outstanding, and the large screen is perfect for group viewing. You can even add a music file to play while viewing pictures! All I need now is for the TV to serve chips and beer.

I bought my 50PS60 from Amazon partner OneCall, which shipped within 24 hours from Washington state. They had strapped it upright on a long pallet, with two shockwatch stickers attached. Perfect condition. OneCall is an authorized dealer so I was able to take advantage of the LG [...] on this unit, which made selecting this unit a no brainer.”

“What can one say that hasn’t already been said? This television is amazing, I’ve owned mine since Feb 09. I had to refuse the first shipment due to the glass being cracked in several places, but Diedre helped me out big time.

Hope I spelled the name right. I bought this with the intention of using the NFL Shop Rebate and Amazon came through making sure I didn’t miss the deadline. Now if only NFL Shop would get my size of jersey.

Anyway, If you’re looking for a very nice HDTV, this is it. I’ve seen some complain about the speakers, but I think they’re just fine. I also switch between them and my Samsung HT-Z310 Home Theater System (for movies). I originally had my eye on a Panasonic, but when I saw the two together, Samsung won.”

“In a darker room, watching this TV is like watching real-life. When I watch my old LCD, my mind knows I am watching TV; but when I watch this TV, my mind is tricked into thinking I am there. You need external speakers or home theater system since the built-in speakers leave much to be desired. But then TVs never have sound commensorate with the display - never! “because now, I’m going to be spending WAY too much time watching television. I bought this set sight-unseen. The price was the biggest factor coupled with some favorable reviews on CNET for other Samsung plasmas.

I am no “videophile” so I can live with 720p resolution. Compared to my 10 year old, 27″ Toshiba it’s like seeing a TV for the first time. I have Verizon FiOS digital cable, which has quite a few high definition channels, so I flipped over to their high-def demo channel and I watched programs for hours that “BS” (Before Samsung) would probably have bored me to tears.

I have a 480p DVD player that I can now watch in 480p, instead of 480i. I dropped in the movie “300″ and it looked just as good as it did on the IMAX screen (IMO).

I bought a component video cable for my Wii (don’t forget to change the video setting to 480p) and was simply amazed at the clarity. It’s not the most expensive, and some “experts” will not consider it to be the best plasma out there but I’m giving myself a big pat on the back. The piano black finish is like icing on the cake. I would, and will, recommend this TV to anyone.”

“My whole family is in love with this TV. After looking at any number of TVs, on display and those owned by neighbors and friends, we chose the Samsung and haven’t looked back. There are all kinds of input options, including quite a few HDMI inputs, which means that video components and game consoles can all stay plugged in without any juggling around, and the cord keeper on the back of the set keeps the cables all but entirely out of sight.

The picture quality is terrific, especially for sports events, and the sound quality, while not able to match surround sound, is perfectly acceptable.

The one caveat is the Touch of Color. It happens to works very well in our room, but might not be for everyone. The red color borders the black in the clear edges around the base and picture frame, and is very contemporary and cool looking, but is actually not that noticeable. Samsung told me that some people rig a can light behind the set to make the red effect more noticeable. The one aspect of the Touch of Color with which I was unaware is the red cast to the screen. When you are used to big black screens, it’s a bit of a surprise. Although it is not terribly noticeable when the TV is on, it is quite evident when the TV is off and might not work with every style of decor. Whether or not it was designed to do so, the red cast is actually very helpful in reducing screen glare if your TV happens to catch any glare from daylight coming into the room.

All in all, this is a beautiful set with great quality and options for picture fit that increase with the type of cable used (HDMI having the most options and the best picture quality). The TV and remote are very easy to figure out, so much so that you hardly need the manual. In addition, Samsung customer service was helpful, very knowledgeable and seemed happy to walk me through whatever questions I had about the set.”

“The picture is amazing, even with standard definition telivision. Blu-Ray looks breathtaking. Another nice feature is being able to connect to your home network & watch picture, movies, & listen to music all without a media center extender. Amazon shipped the item very quickly & it arrived at the delvery hub by VESA. VESA, on the other hand, held on to the item for about two weeks without calling to set up a date to deliver. I had to call Amazon & ask why they were not delivering, needless to say it was delivered the next day. Other than the contractor amazon uses, it was a great experience.”

The White Gloves Delivery man and I unpack the television, placed it atop my entertainment center, plug it end, and turned it on. The picture was incredible without any adjustments. We currently have 4 flat screen televisions in our home, two LCDs and two Plasmas. Although the LCDs are excellent televisions, they pale in comparison to the two plasmas. The primary differences are motion blur and black level.

My only negative comment concerning the PNA760 50″ plasma is reflection glare. Probably would not want to place this Television in a brightly lighted room without heavy curtains to block out ambient light sources while viewing. In a dark room this television is perfect in all aspects. I highly recommend Amazon’s white glove delivery too. “

“This showed up in my Gold Box in December (this is written in April; I wanted a chance to live with it for a while). Gee, I wonder how Amazon knew I wanted this very TV? Price was fantastic, and White Glove delivery was great; the only hang-up–it was chilly on delivery day, and the guy couldn’t turn the set on to run down his checklist. No biggie, but it was hard to wait for the set to acclimate before getting the chance to turn it on.

There aren’t enough good things to say about it. Touch of color is very subtle and the clear band around the edge of the bezel is cool. After dialing back the settings for a break-in period (say what you will, I felt better doing it), I calibrated the set and am still amazed at the picture. High Def sources are excellent (over-the-air and U-Verse’s HD signal).

Even component 480p out of the DVD player looks great. No Blu-Ray yet; waiting for another Gold Box deal. The sound isn’t world class, but I knew that going in and have a very nice amp and speakers for when it matters. Love this set–not like, love!”
